A Story of Survival …The Man with the Plain Sandwich
For years, Paul’s coworkers thought they had him figured out.
He was the quiet one. The man who ate the same plain sandwich every day, avoided office gossip, and slipped out exactly at five o’clock without fail.
To them, he seemed ordinary.
Forgettable, even.
What they didn’t know was that Paul was running out of strength… and time.
Every morning before sunrise, while the rest of the city slept, Paul was already awake—making sandwiches for children who knew hunger better than homework. Before heading to the office, he delivered food to shelters, bus stops, and apartment blocks where kids waited with empty stomachs and tired eyes.
His routine was never dull.
It was survival for someone else.
But Paul never talked about it. He carried his exhaustion quietly, hiding it behind polite smiles and routine lunches. His coworkers mistook his silence for distance, never realizing how much of himself he was giving away every single day.
Then one afternoon, he collapsed.
The office froze.
Paramedics rushed in while stunned employees stood helplessly nearby, suddenly realizing how little they had truly known about the man sitting beside them for years.
And when the truth finally surfaced, it left the entire office shaken.
They learned that the “boring” sandwiches Paul brought to work weren’t about habit or lack of imagination. Every extra dollar he saved went toward feeding children. While others spent freely on takeout and coffee runs, Paul stretched every cent to make sure someone else could eat.
